item America: Protective containment barriers for workplace safety

item America has been very responsive as events related to COVID-19 have unfolded. Internally, to keep the team as safe as possible, the entire office teams at item America’s three corporate locations in Hagerstown, MD (HQ), Greenwood, SC and Irapuato, Mexico, invoked a work from home policy. By doing this and implementing safe distancing guidelines on the production floor (social distancing, protective masks, gloves and sanitizer stations), item America is essentially operating at 100% capacity.


Because item America’s primary product is high-quality extruded aluminum profiles and accessories, they are serving many companies and organizations producing products to aid in the fight against COVID-19. The related industries they serve include medical products, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, cleaning products, and defense, among others.


Given the flexibility and adaptability of the item extruded aluminum profile technology, item America is able to construct safety barriers for offices, shops, retail, factories, and more. To bring ideas to their customers, they have integrated these Containment Solutions into their most visited online properties; most notably on the item Solution Center:


The Solution Center was designed to be a digital resource for customers to see real and rendered solutions that might fit their needs either “as-seen” or with small customizations. The Containment Solutions are no exception to this. These are protective barriers and other solutions that directly address the need for safety in the workplace with a very fast turn-around time and the flexibility to allow for any special customizations. The first big sale of Containment Solutions was actually prompted by the action of item America’s Director of Operations and his wife (neither of them do sales for item America!), who approached her employer about protective panels for their offices. An order for one desktop barrier panel turned into an order for 350.


The entire item America sales team is active and quoting orders, including their distributor partners. Since their office and sales teams are currently restricted from in-person visits and meetings, they have fully embraced the digital options available to us. While the sales team has always been available this way, they have been really working on cementing this idea with customers.
