Industrie 4.0 / IIoT relevant standards and norms are negotiated and developed at various technical levels and by different standards bodies. Overarching goal is a consensus-based, research-accompanying standardisation process which is essential for the rapid realisation of more highly digitised industrial manufacturing processes. Only open and interoperable standards will benefit all companies since their machines, storage systems, products, employees, suppliers, partner companies and customers are networked and able to exchange information in accordance with uniform standards. Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT – Connecting the Unconnectable

With Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT now a reality, companies are investing billions in hopes of generating a positive ROI but are challenged with connectivity issues within their plants and between older machines. There are 40 plants across four continents that have 1,000 CNC machines distributed from various vendors. These machines, some of which are 30 years old, can benefit from preventative maintenance even more than the newer industrial equipment. However, several of the challenges range from how to connect older machines and how to manage the different brands and protocols with each machine. Companies must also address the need to automate data collecting and the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) calculations per machine, per shift, per operator and per plant. Connecting PLCs and devices on the plant floor has been an ongoing issue for the Industrial Internet of Things. Enterprises deal with a host of hang-ups caused by custom coding and additional coding for syncing plant floor data and top floor data.
This session will share real-world experiences and explore the benefits of visual log engines implemented on factory floors to accelerate the launch IoT projects in days rather than weeks or months. It will cover the use of advanced software technology and out of the box instrumentation to illustrate how to rapidly provide a connectivity solution that increases productivity and productivity traceability.
